Put on your running shoes

The first step to behavior change

by Brian Curtis, Ph.D.

Take a moment to consider the changes you want to make in life.

.

.

.

.

Now just settle on one change that you want to make. A change that you are confident will improve your wellbeing.

.

.

.

.

Now consider: What is the FIRST STEP that would not only put you on that path, but would actually begin moving you along that path?

.

.

.

.

Is the step you settled on too vague? Sharpen it up. Dig down and get specific. What can you do TODAY to start walking on this path towards a new life?

.

.

.

.

Perhaps you are considering getting in shape. Being healthier. Losing weight. More energy.

If so, just find your running shoes.

Don't have running shoes? The first step can be going to the store to get running shoes. Browsing and actually ordering them online. Today.

Do you have running shoes? Put them on. The barrier has been overcome. It seems silly to take them off now. At the very least, you know where they are. Maybe move them next to the front door, or to the side of the treadmill collecting dust downstairs.

.

.

.

.

OK, your running shoes are on. You've taken the first step.

What will you do tomorrow?
